Which tennis session is right for me or my child?
If you are interested in your child taking up tennis lessons and they are over 8 and have very limited sporting experience, they may find joining the age group below a more satisfying experience. If you are unsure contact me before you book your lesson and I will help guide you to the best session for your child.
Sponge Ball- this is aimed at children from 4-6 years old and focuses on providing children with the movement, coordination and hand skills required to be able to control a ball when they progress onto red ball tennis. Large sponge balls are predominately used to keep the ball bounce slow and low for the younger learners.
Red Ball Tennis- this is aimed at children from 6-8 and covers the beginning steps of controlling a tennis ball individually through to match play on the small red ball court. The red ball used is designed to bounce lower and slower to help beginners and also to be appropriate to the average size of a 5-7 year old.
Orange Ball Tennis- this is aimed at children from 8-10 and is played on a larger court than red ball, but smaller than full size. Lesson are aimed at developing children’s variety of shot as well as developing more in-depth tactics. The orange ball is slightly faster and higher bouncing than a red ball and is aimed to bounce at an appropriate height for children aged 7-9 years old.
Green Ball Tennis- this is aimed at children from 10+ years of age and is about putting their game on to the full court, using a green ball that bounces at an appropriate height for children in this age range.
Yellow Ball Tennis- this is aimed at children who are now big enough to play full court tennis with a standard yellow ball. Lessons will be delivered with an increasing emphasis on tactics and developing the mental strategies required to be a successful tennis player.
Adult Beginner Coaching-these sessions are aimed at adults with low confidence and want a friendly, fun, welcoming sessions aimed at helping you develop your timing, learn a basic overarm serve and get to grips with the rules of the game.
Adult Improver/Team Coaching- these sessions are aimed at adults who are already playing tennis competitively and want to come to a coaching session to improve their game and help them be more effective on court. They would also be appropriate for players new to the sport but come with a high level of confidence.
It is worth noting that as an experienced and well qualified tennis coach and teacher, I take the needs of the entire group into consideration when deciding on content and will pitch the expectation of tennis lessons, depending on what the individuals in each group need to help them enjoy and improve their tennis to the full.
Cardio Tennis- A workout on the tennis courts. Music on. Hit loads of balls and get moving.
